Tanning Beds Compared to Arsenic

Tanning junkies soak up new cancer warnings

This report is about tanning beds being equal to arsenic and mustard gas, this also includes any other ultraviolet radiation. Doctors have warned everyone for years now about tanning beds causing skin cancer. Some women are thinking twice about tanning in the beds with the fear of arsenic and cancer. Tanning salons are now reporting cancellations of memberships from worried customers and often receive questions about their beds causing cancer. More women in their 20's are getting Melanoma, which is something that usually only appears in older men and women. Some people are not even taking affect to this article and continue tanning even after reading the article.

My first emotional response was that, I, myself use the tanning bed whenever possible...(not very often tho), and I think i have decided to discontinue using the tanning beds if possible.

I do not smoke, so for a tanning bed to be up as high as cancer caused from cigarettes, it makes me kinda nervous. I wasnt sure what arsenic cancer was but i looked it up and found that it is a very toxic substance. One very good example of arsenic is the poison they use to kill rats and mice. I love using the tanning bed, seems to make my face clear up, looks better when i wear certain colors, and even looks better with eye liner (make-up). I know there are millions of people out there that do use tanning beds on a daily basis and i've not heard much about deaths cause by this, nor have i heard about much of the cancer caused by using tanning beds, but it does make me a little more causous about them. I dont think i will stop using them completely though. Although "It's now the leading cancer diagnosed in British woman in their 20's" and I am 22 and really don't want cancer. Most woman and some men will continue to seek the "golden skin" that is so popular now. Everywhere you go there are people tanned and it seems to be a big deal for looks to be tan.

Although tanning is such a big deal with everyone around us, I believe everyone will do what they want in the end. If this article prevents someone from getting melanoma, or skin cancer, then i think the article was well done and did its job. However for me, tanning will be continued.

Achieving and Maintaining Physical Perfection
No Easy Task for Pageant Contestants

Most pageants allow plastic surgery to be done and some also encourage it to be done to enhance the looks of the contestants. Since 1990, most contestants use padding to enhance breast to encourage a natural look. Using padding also prevents breast implants being done. Now days contestants would not admit nor deny any surgery that had/had not been done before a competition. Miss California Carrie Prejean was dethroned because of surgery, although, Fox News was told by the state directors that they funded the implants for Prejean. Pageant woman are now being threatened with the title they won being taken away because of weight gain after the pageant is over. It is said that the contestants will "work out religously" and watch everything they eat to make sure they stay under the weight limits for the competition. After the competition is done they may not work out as much nor watch their eating habits due to traveling. Donald Trump, pageant owner, says that title holders have an "obligation to stay in a perfect physical state." Even Asian pageant contestants get double eyelid surgery to get more of a "Westernized" look, "AmerAsian" look or an "EuroAsian" look.
My first, emotional reaction to this story was my belief on Pageants being "all-natural". As I read the story my reaction did not change, only got stronger.
My all-natural reation to this story was based on how girls in America feel now growing up. These pageant winners can be role models for young girls and if our pageant winners are all fake and made up then girls will use that in their own lives. Young girls will want to get surgery done for themselves to look like the women they look up to. I believe beauty pageants should be real women with natural looks for the sake of our children. My second reaction to this is why pageants except and encourage breast implants and other surgerys to be done? Beauty pageants should be about natural beauty instead of fake made up girls. Anyone could get surgery to make themselves look better, but who determines beauty? Why can't women be proud of what they look like naturally? And as far as the Asian women getting surgery done to look more "AmerAsian" is crazy. I would understand if a regular person would want to get surgery done, but not for a competition. These women are stressed out trying to stay in shape and keep their weight at a certain standard just to win these pageants, but they are changing their looks and who they are as a person with what God gave them by resorting to surgeries. And these women gaining weight after pageants just lets the rest of the world know that they are just like everyone else. "Although contestants are discouraged from altering their own natural beauty, no restrictions are placed on cosmetic surgery; it is impossible to enforce such a rule," this i understand, it would be hard to know who has what done, but there must be something they can do to keep the girls from getting surgeries done.
Surgery doesnt last forever, natural beauty does. I have a 3 yr old daughter and i dont want her to grow up in this world thinking she isnt beautiful enough and she needs to change everything about herself because of what she sees on TV or in Magizines.

First Time Blogger

This is actually my first time writing a blog and keeping up with it. It's kinda like having a journal that others read and I'm excited to start this experience and see how/where it goes.
