I found this story on KTLA News.
There was a 13 year old girl from Brentwood killed while trying to get on a school bus between Sunset Boulevard and Cliffwood Avenue. This happened before 7:20 Friday morning. The girls name has not been released but she attends Harvard Westlake Middle School. She was struck by one of two vehicles, a Mercedes-Benz or a Black Toyota. Both drivers stopped but neither identified themselves. The victim’s mother witnessed her daughter get hit by one of the vehicles. The girl was pronounced dead later at UCLA Medical Center.
My first reaction to this story is how common this is. People do not follow the laws surrounding the school bus; or any other law for that matter. It is sad that this mother had to witness her daughter get killed right in front of her own eyes.
I could not imagine watching one of my kids get hit by a car, or anything else tragic happening to them. The first thing after the incident that would go through my head is why I couldn’t stop it. I would probably blame myself, and would have a hard time going from one day to the next. Kids aren’t supposed to die before their parents. It’s not the natural way of life. This is a terrible thing that happened, but maybe it will open everyone’s eyes and make them more aware of things around them…like a big giant school bus stopped with a stop sign and flashing lights. The report said that the Toyota possibly was kids driving to school, so apparently they weren’t very careful drivers. Especially since they did a hit and run. I kind of feel for those kids too, since they will live the rest of their lives knowing they hit and killed a young girl because of their careless driving. Unfortunately, it’s too late to learn from their mistakes. What I’m a little confused about is, if the mother witnessed the accident, then why couldn’t she remember which car had hit her daughter? I guess she was so shocked and emotional about everything that she may not remember clearly. I remember seeing a girl that rode my bus get hit by a car right in front of me. It was something still to this day I can see in my head very clearly. I remember sitting towards the front of the bus, I was maybe 3rd or 4th grade at the time. But I was sitting on the left side of the bus, and I was watching an older girl walking across the street to get on the bus. There was a little hill in front of the bus that the opposite traffic would have to go over before seeing the stopped bus. She got halfway across the road and a car came flying over the hill and hit her. I cried, I was scared, and I didn’t know what to do. I remember seeing her thrown onto the car and thrown further than the length of the bus, since the car was going the opposite way as the bus. When the car and girl were gone (when she got hit) I remember seeing the girls shoe right in front of me on the road, which I could see out the bus window. It was as if when the car hit her and her shoe didn’t move, but her foot came out and left it behind. I also remember seeing her backpack out of the road in her yard from being thrown. This happened so quickly, but when I think about it, it is so slow, as if I can see everything. I stared at the shoe and backpack for a while, and I don’t remember anything after that, almost as if I blocked the rest of it out. That was a very traumatic thing for me and I barely knew the girl. But I do know that she ended up in a wheel chair, and everyday passing her house she would be going to school and my bus driver would honk and everyone would wave. I still remember the girls’ name. Her family had put up a wheel chair ramp outside of her house so she could get in and out. Sorry this was so long. The story reminded me of that and I thought I would write about it from a kid on the bus’s point of view.
Let’s just hope that whoever did this gets caught, and the people reading this will pay more attention to the roads when they are driving. Maybe even realize that hitting someone while driving doesn’t just affect that person and their family, but everyone around them as well.

Doctor: Breast Implants Stopped Bullet, Saved Woman's Life
I found this story on KTLA News.
This is a Beverly Hills story about a woman who was shot in her arm and her chest by a crazed soon to be ex-husband of her co-worker.This happened at Simi Valley dental office last summer. Lydia Carranza would be dead had it not been for her “size-D implants.” Lydia worked with Mariela Parades, who is 24 years old and had filed for divorce. Her soon to be ex-husband showed up at her work (Simi Valley dental office) and opened fired in the office. Lydia was shot in her arm and once in her chest, and had it not been for her breast implants, doctors say she would not be alive today. Dr. Ghavami said, “the bullet fragments were millimeters from her heart and her vital organs. If not for the implant, she might not be alive.” He also said that he is willing to perform the reconstructive surgery needed to fix the implant at a reduced price, and is also hoping other companies donate supplies to help. Unfortunately for Mariela, she was shot and killed by her husband, Jaime Parades, who is awaiting trial. The report says, “he is being held without bail on numerous counts, including murder and premeditated murder.”
My first reaction to this story is wow, that is amazing. This woman is a very lucky woman and although she should be grateful to have a second chance at live due to still being alive, I completely understand why she would want to get her implant fixed. Too bad she has to pay to have it reconstructed, even at a discounted price. She was shot and it wasn’t her fault.
This is a great story. She is so lucky and unlucky at the same time. She is unlucky because she was shot twice, and she is lucky because she is still alive. Most people think breast implants are bad, and there are definitely a lot of controversial arguments on this topic. There are so many dangers to getting breast implants, and for once there is definitely a positive situation come out of it. Just think about what the doctor said about the bullet fragments coming so close to her organs and her heart. I bet she is at home with her family thanking God that she had decided to get implants, whatever the reasoning may have been. And I bet there are also so many woman out there who want breast implants now because of this story. As for Mariela, this is a very sad story. She filed from divorce from her husband and he came to her work and murdered her and shot a co-worker. My first thought about that is, he probably thought if he couldn’t have her, then no one could. That is such a dangerous thing. Guess she had a good reason to divorce this man, because obviously he was not a mentally stable guy.
My prayer goes out to her family and friends, and also to the workers that witnessed the whole thing. Something like this is so tragic and I’m surprised they didn’t say more about the woman killed.

School Accused of Using Webcams to Spy on Students at Home
I found this story on KTLA News.
In Philadelphia, FBI is opening a criminal investigation on a school district for activating webcams at their students’ homes without any knowledge of this being done. The school had issued laptops for students to take home, and in doing so activated the webcams to spy on their students while not on school premises. The report said, “Families learned of the alleged webcam images when an assistant principal spoke to a student about inappropriate behavior at home.”
My first reaction to this crazy story was how inappropriate this was and how out of control our school systems are.
I cannot believe something like this could even happen. My sister in law got a laptop from her school when she was in high school, as did all the other students. They were allowed to take them home to do homework or whatever. I understand wanting to protect students from everything while they are in school, but this takes that to a whole new level. This principal and anyone else involved in this should be fired. I imagine they didn’t have a couple hundred people sitting around watching everyone’s laptops to make sure the students are safe or not doing anything illegal, but I’m curious why the principal was watching this certain kid. If he had some kind of message from the kid, such as the kid telling him that his parents beat him and told him to access his webcam for proof, then I could understand. But there is no reason for this student to have his privacy invaded, and the parents or other siblings have their privacy invaded as well. There is no logical explanation for something like this, and I don’t know how the principal is going to get himself out of this. These kids are supposed to feel safe at school, and knowing they have a school computer, they should feel it is ok and not be intimidated by it. I totally agree with the principal or other school teachers looking at the students’ laptop history to make sure they are not getting onto sites they shouldn’t be on, or making sure they are not threatening anyone or doing anything else illegal. But there is absolutely no reason for their webcams to be viewed, especially with no permission. This is a very low thing for a school to do, and I hope something is done to prevent this in the future. I just hope that this doesn’t ruin other schools from having the ability to give their students laptops to help with homework. Laptops, in my opinion, are a great thing for kids to have. Everything is using computers now days, and this teaches them responsibility and things they might need for their future careers.
Let’s just hope that this is stopped, and kids can continue to advance into the world of computers. Maybe they can remove webcams all together, there’s no reason for them anyways.

Three Middle School Students Facing Criminal "Sexting" Charges
I found this story on KTLA News.
This story is about 3 middle school kids who could be facing sex offender charges. There are being charged with “sexting” which is sending naked or half naked pictures of yourself to someone else who is under the age of 18. Paula Kniestedt’s 13 year old daughter is one of the 3 Middle School kids being charged with this; her daughter had a picture of herself that she sent to a boyfriend who, after a breakup, sent it to other kids in their school. Paula said about her daughter in the article, “This could ruin everything for her. This could ruin her whole life.” Paula also thinks what her daughter did was wrong, but believes there are more people who should be in trouble for passing the picture along as well. Pepper Schwatz, a sociology professor at the University of Washington, said, “If you send something out into cyber space you can never pull it back. You cannot control where it goes and it could come to haunt you literally forever.” Paula said, “I think it does need to be out there that parents need to be a little more particular about what their kids are doing with their internet and their phones.” The report also mentioned a girl from Ohio who was 18 years old, hung herself after dealing with this same situation. States such as Utah and Vermont are now looking at lessening the punishment for the “sexting” crimes.
My first reaction to this is how horrible this is from both points of view. I cannot imagine having my kids in trouble for this, and I also couldn’t imagine my son/daughter having a sex offender charge against them. They would have to register every time they move, or even when they try to get a job. This would be a terrible thing to deal with, let alone think about. No parent wants this for their child.
This is one subject I am very passionate about. I hate this so much; everything about this. First off, kids in middle school are way too young to even be thinking about this type of stuff. They should be worried about school and friends and clothes or sports. They shouldn’t even be thinking about sex in any way at this point in their lives; I know I wasn’t. Second of all, the punishment for these kids to carry a sex offender charge over their heads for the rest of their lives is the worst possible thing they could do to these kids. I cannot even believe this is being allowed. I understand these kids should not have done this, but they shouldn’t be charged with child pornography, that is absurd. This would be like someone who stole something getting the death penalty. It is probably embarrassing enough to have a naked picture of this girl passed around to the kids she has to see every day at school. I couldn’t imagine something like that, especially at such a young age. These kids need to be closer with their parents, and parents need to be closer with their kids. Parents need to know what’s going on in their kids’ lives, and be open and honest enough for their kids to know right from wrong. I don’t agree with this story, nor do I support it in any way.

Love Stinks! Woman Gets Manure Heart as Valentine
This story was found on KTLA News.
This happened in Minnesota, where a man made a very original Valentine’s Day gift for his wife. They have been married for 37 years and live on their farm. Bruce Andersland started the gift on Wednesday and finished on Thursday. Bruce made a half mile heart shape on their farm made out of manure. Beth, Bruce’s wife, said, “It’s the biggest and most original Valentine she has ever received.” She also said, “Some people might think it’s gross, but why not do something fun with what you got?” The heart would have been darker and easier to see, but it snowed on top of the manure, so it’s not as dark as it should be, but still noticeable.
This is a very cute story. This gives a whole new meaning to being original. Don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this, nor would I have thought to do something like this.
She is right though about people thinking it was gross. I personally think it is gross, but like she said, it was cute. I know even though it was gross, I would love it my husband did something like that. It’s sweet and thoughtful. Although I’d rather him not do something like that, I guess I’ll take what I can get. I’ve never been a big Valentine’s Day person. My husband always does something very sweet for me, but I never expect him to. Most girls are upset if their spouse or boyfriends don’t buy them something, but I think it’s just another day. I still love the surprises my husband comes up with every year, but would be perfectly happy just to spend the day with him.
Valentine’s Day just seems like a day for the businesses (flowers and cards) to make a little extra money.

Woman Stabs Man in Eye with Stiletto
I found this story on KTLA News.
This happened in London, where a 33 year old woman stabbed a man in his eye with her stiletto while sharing a cab together. Yorkshire police said, “The man was in a critical but stable condition after the woman, with whom he was sharing a cab, assaulted him with the heel of her shoe.” Sun newspaper quoted that neighbors said, “The pair were a couple and had gotten into an argument when she kicked him.” Police wouldn’t comment on the situation, but did say, “The woman had appeared in court earlier in the week and was released on bail.”
Once again, another funny story. Who would have thought? I’ve heard of this before, but I think the last story I read this one was about a stripper who stabbed another stripper with her stiletto as well.
This is another story where I wonder what happened and what they were fighting about to make this unknown woman go to that defense. She could have killed this man, and all she got was bail set. Should this be considered attempted murder? Probably not. I doubt this woman was really trying to kill him; there are so many other things to do if she wanted him dead. However, stilettos can be and are a very dangerous weapon for women everywhere. So all you guys out there, remember not to mess with a girl with really tall heel, because it could be the last thing you ever do. Coming from a girl who has a pair of knee high boots, which are wide heels because I can’t walk in skinny heels. The second paragraph on this site explains where the name stiletto comes from and how it was named after the “stiletto dagger.” I didn’t find any stories about someone being murdered from a stiletto heel, not to say there isn’t one out there, but I would imagine that if someone was killed with a stiletto, then they must have really made someone mad; because for someone to go way out of your way to kill someone else with your heel would be very well thought out, or intentional. I can think of a hundred other things that could be used as weapons, matter of fact, just about anything could be used as a weapon. The story still never said why she stabbed the man, boyfriend or not, in the eye with her stiletto, but I guess we’ll never know unless they come out with another story. I guess the man could have assaulted her, tried to steal her purse, or maybe like the last story I did about the man vandalizing Wal-mart televisions, maybe she was just really mad at him. Maybe she should take an anger management class, or maybe even just find a new boyfriend. She must have had some kind of good reasoning for it since she didn't get much of a charge for it.
Although stilettos are sexy, they can be used as a weapon, so everyone, male or female, should be careful. And they should probably be kept out of reach of children. Lol.

Man Goes on Bat-Wielding Rampage at Walmart
I found this story on KTLA News.
This is about a 23 year old man who was walking through Wal-Mart, grabbed a baseball bat, and started vandalizing flat-screen televisions. He destroyed 29 flat-screens which totaled up to $22,000. The report said, “Police in Lilburn near Atlanta have charged Westley Strelis with 29 counts of criminal damage to property in the second degree.” Witnesses have told the police that Strelis grabbed a metal baseball bat and headed toward the electronic department and destroyed the 29 televisions that were on display.
My first opinion of this was laughter. This is a very funny story. It is sad for the Wal-mart store that now has damaged goods, but funny for the people around.
What caused this man to go nuts in the electronic department at Wal-Mart? What did Wal-mart do to him? I’m so curious as to what started this whole thing. Maybe his girlfriend broke up with him, and he was very upset. The main thing I have to say is at least he hit 29 televisions and not 29 random people walking by him. Could you imagine if he had been violent to people instead? Not to put myself in harm’s way, but I kind of wish I were in the store when he had this breakdown. That would have been something to see.
You don’t really hear about stories such as this one very often, good thing no one got hurt, and let’s hope they come out with an updated story as to what set this man in destructive mode.

Student, 12, Arrested for Doodling on Desk
I found this story on KTLA News.
Alexa Gonzalez is a 12-year-old student at Junior High School in Forest Hills New York. She was arrested for writing her name on her desk during class. She wrote, “Lex was here. 2/1/10,” she also wrote, “I love my friends Abby and Faith” on her desk as well. Lex said she was trying to kill time while waiting for her Spanish teacher to hand out their homework. She was escorted out of the school in hand cuffs. Although she had a perfect attendance record, she was handcuffed and taken into custody at the police station across the street from her school. After appearing in family court Tuesday, Lex was assigned, “8 hours of community service, a book report and an essay on what she learned from her mistake.” A DOE spokesman said, “the principal made a mistake and has lifted the suspension.”
My first reaction to this story was how ignorant this was, and how bad our school systems have gotten.
I cannot believe this 12 year old girl was handcuffed and taken out of school for something so minor. I think 90% of kids that age either do or want to write on their desks. I understand that it is wrong and also vandalizing. But what do you honestly expect from kids? They are going to do things you don’t want them to do. This girl had perfect attendance and no other problems. I bet there are lots of parents out there who wish that was the worst thing their child has done. I’m curious if it wasn’t something the principal was trying to set an example off. Lex got expelled from school, buy obviously the principal knew he went overboard with it, because he took it back and allowed her to return to school. I would understand her being expelled from school, had she been in trouble numerous times previous; but for this being her first offense, this is ridiculous. I know if this had been my child, I would be very upset, and the principal and the police station would have heard from me. I’ve seen kids when I was in school do worse and not have such a harsh punishment. And I also think that it was weird that the judge assigned her 8 hours community service, a book report and an essay about “what she learned from her mistake.” That was way overboard as well. Is a judge even capable of forcing a 12 year old to write a book report and essay? Seems like the girl won’t have much to write about; she might write about how things got blown way out of proportion or about how “writing on desks is punishable by death.” Even the school thought their punishment was to harsh.
It’s amazing how the world changes as you get older. When I was in school, the worst punishment for writing on your desk, was having to clean it off yourself, or sitting in the hallway; it may not have even been bad enough to go to the principal’s office. I can’t imagine what the other kids think, and I bet they are all scared to breath thinking if the teacher hears them they might get a criminal record. It’s stuff like this that shows how bad things have gone downhill. Kind of like the story about the young girls sending naked pictures of themselves to their boyfriends, they got charged with child pornography and are now sex offenders for the rest of their lives. What’s the point of that?
My day!
Today is my son’s 1st birthday. I am so excited, because he is getting so big. My eldest son just turned 8 on January 22nd, so we are having their birthday parties together. We are having one big party tomorrow night and they are so excited, although my 1 year old is too young to know what’s going on, I know he will be excited.
When I brought my son to school this morning, it was sleeting, and a little while after I got home it started to snow. The snow was so pretty. I had never seen snow like that, it was really thick, fluffy snowflakes that were huge, and it covered the ground pretty quick. As for now, the snow is gone; it only stayed on the ground for about an hour or so. But if it snows a lot tonight then my mom won’t be able to drive down from 3 hours away, to go to the boys’ birthday party, because of the weather.
My husband and I went shopping today at the mall. We like The Buckle store, I got two pairs of jeans there, and spend $200. How do you spend that much money on jeans? Lol We are also looking at buying a new mattress because ours is old and no longer comfortable. We stopped by two of the mattress shops in the mall and tried out a bunch of them. The air mattresses are really comfortable but don’t think it’s what we are looking for. I really like the memory foam beds, they are so relaxing, but my husband doesn’t like them, plus with him just having back surgery, the memory foam beds are hard for him to get in and out of. So I think we are going to stick to the spring beds with the pillow top. We both love pillow tops. It’s something we can both agree on because my husband likes the hard/firm beds and I like the softer ones, so a pillow top fits both of our needs. So if anyone has any suggestions on beds, or if someone has a pillow top mattress bed and has an opinion about it, please share.
I just got my nails done yesterday. The lady who did them reminded me of my mom. She was so nice and fun to talk to. She did a really good job and I’m really excited about them. I have the acrylic fake nails, the clear ones with the white French tips. I had my nails done for my senior prom, but was never a girly girl, so when I had them done I pulled them off as soon as they got a tiny bit loose. So I had a last moment thought yesterday that I wanted nails again, so I did. Now relearning how to type is so much harder than I could have ever imagined. I’m slowly getting used to them, but I still hit a wrong key every once in a while. Guess I’ll have to figure it out as I go.
I’m hoping everything goes well with the birthday party, and pray that my mother can make it.
