This story I found was different from the other stories I blog about
A retired medical doctor, shot and killed his bedridden wife in the head to " end her suffering" on Sunday. Dr. James Clyde Fish used a small caliber handgun when he shot his wife at the Leisure World Retirement Community in Laguna Woods. He is now being charged with voluntary manslaughter, according to authorities. Dr. Fish is 90 years old, and his wife, Phyliss Loveland Fish, was 88 years old. Phyliss Fish was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, had a debilitating stroke several years before, and suffers from dementia. After shooting his wife in the head, Dr. Fish then shot himself in the head as well. When the deputies showed up, he was still alive. He is expected to recover from his shot, and serve up to 21 years in state prison if convicted.
My first thought about this story, was how sad it was, that this man was going to be charged for doing this.
I cannot believe this man is going to be charged for putting his wife out of her misery. You know that you would do the same thing, and so would about 90% of American. It would be so hard to see your loved one laying there dying and being in pain, and nothing you could do about it. I dont think this man should be charged for this because he is already to old to learn a lesson from it, and because he didn't kill his wife out of hatred, or spite. He helped her get to Heaven, and helped relieve the pain she was in. I couldn't imagine having my husband sitting next to me, being in that state. It would be hard for me to kill him myself, but i know if he were begging me to because he was in to much pain to bare, or because he didn't want to live laying in a bed, being completely useless, i would probably have to put him out of his misery. But i would do the same as Dr. Fish and shoot myself as well. I wouldnt want to live without my husband. And being 90 years old, he's had his long life already and there's really not much for a 90 year old person to do anymore. It's kinda like Romeo and Juliet in a way. Dr. Fish wanted to go to Heaven with his wife.
Although some people wouldnt look at it that way, some probably believe that he won't go to Heaven because he killed someone. But I honestly believe that God will make an exception for this crime.

I definitely understand your view on this and it is truly a sad story. I don't agree though. I can't be totally sure what I would do in the same situation, but I hope I would remember that I don't have the authority over life and death. Ultimately it's not really my choice.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with you that it would be sad for the husband to go to jail for this. It seems like they could come up with another option for him. He says he did what his wife wanted and did it out of love, so maybe he'll get a little leniency.
I don't understand how humans call it humane to put an animal out of pain, but not another human being, especially someone you love. I do not think I could do it, but I can't blame anyone for it either.
