I found this story on KTLA News.
William C. Caldwell III, 45-years-old, was arrested in Southlake Mall for telling a mall Santa he was carrying dynamite. The report said, "Police say Southlake Mall in suburban Atlanta was evacuated but no explosives were found." Caldwell is being held without bond in the Clayton County jail. He was dressed as an elf but was not part of the mall Christmas staff. Caldwell sat in line waiting to see Santa, when he reached the front of the line he told Santa he had dynamite in his bag, so Santa called mall security and Caldwell was then arrested. The report also said, "Caldwell faces several charges, including having hoax devices and making terrorist threats."
My first reaction to this story was laughter. It has been a long time since I've done a funny story, so I thought I would do one now that I found this one.
So this is the funniest story I've posted on in a long time. I had to do it blog about it after reading it. This man ruined Christmas for so many kids. What kind of person would do that? Could you imagine what the parents of these kids told them? Hey guys we have to leave and you can't see Santa today because someone is trying to kill him. Wow, seriously? Although sad for kids, funny for others; that is if you weren't there during this whole situation. I'm really curious what this guy had against Santa Clause that he had to threaten to kill him. The good part is that he lied to Santa about having the dynamite in his bag. He didn't have any type of explosive on him. Maybe Caldwell's parents never told him Santa wasn't real, and he found out like...the other day, and now he's mad because he thinks Santa was lying to him his whole life. It's Santa for goodness sake. I grew up with Santa not being real, and my kids will to. I know there are so many people out there who believe you should let your kids be young and believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, etc, but my mother-in-law explained it perfectly to my husband when he got older. You can tell your kids Santa is real and as they get older you can tell them the truth, but how do you explain God to them. If you lied to them about Santa being real and you tell them God is real and they can't see God, how long before they thing you are lying about God as well? We want our kids to know we will never lie to them. Santa/God is a perfect reason not to tell your kids that fairy tale characters are real. They can still have an imagination, by playing pretend and so on, but just know when to draw the line. My kids know we will never lie to them, and they trust us because of that. I'm not telling you how to raise your kids, but keep what my mother-in-law said in mind, and you may agree with us.
It's sad that people actually do things like this, especially around the holidays like this. So many kids are going to the malls now to see Santa, to sit on his lap and tell him what they want for Christmas, and take pictures with him. After this incident, I'm sure there are parents out there who are going to be to cautious to bring their kids to see him. Guess Caldwell is going to be on Santa's naughty list this year.
