I found this story on KTLA News.
Phil Spector was convicted of murdering Lana Clarkson, and was sentenced 19 years to life. He had an appointment scheduled in Toluca Lake with his dentist which was permitted by the state rule. The state rule allows inmates to seek their own private medical treatment as long as they have the financial means to pay for their bill along with the transportation and security costs, which was confirmed by Terry Thornton.
My first reaction was how stupid this is. As if the people in jail don't already get enough as it is. I can't believe they are allowing this man to leave the jail after he killed someone.
These people in jail may have it rough between each other in jail, but for the most part they have everything they could possibly want and/or need. They have free health care, free food, and a roof over their heads. The only thing they really have to pay for is their own personal non-needed items such as cigarettes. These people are in prison for a reason, they have broken a law in some way, and I do not believe these people should be welcome to do as they please. These people can also get an education while in jail, and it's free to them. I have never broken a law and I am not in jail and I pay for my education, but the people in jail who don't deserve to get anything handed to them, are. Now the government wants to know why the crime rate is so high. Guys get in trouble with drugs, they get sent to prison with other drug dealers and make new contacts. Most of them don't have good homes to go to and would rather be in jail because they get everything free. Guys who are going to college to be a lawyer and have to work for what they have, should just go to jail, then they will have their education paid for and have all the time in the world to study and get a law degree. Why is it people in jail get all these freedoms, and get it better than us who aren't in jail, but we don't get half the things they do. It's almost as if they get rewarded for breaking the law. What does that say to everyone else?
Phil Spector got to leave prison to get his teeth done. He murdered someone, but he get's to leave his punishment because he has money. How is this fair to the family of Lana Clarkson? They lost a loved one and the one who took her from them gets freedom to get what he wants. Not only that, but our tax money pays for his education, his health care, his food, and anything else he needs. How is this fair to the rest of the country? I wish something would change about this, there is nothing right about it, but there isn't anything we can do.
