3-year-old Finds Gun, Shoots Himself in Face

I found this story on KTLA News.
A 3-year-old boy is in critical condition from shooting himself in the face with a handgun, on Sunday. The gun the boy used was a .22 caliber gun. This boy's grandmother, Kimberly Gray-Doss, was home with him when this accident happened, according to Rialto Police Sgt. Richard Royce. The report said, "Investigators are trying to determine how the boy got a hold of the gun." But still says that the shooting was indeed an accident. The bullet entered the nasal cavity of the boy and, near his right eye, and went through to the back of his head. The little boy had an hour long surgery at Loma Linda Medical Center, and the boy seems to be doing ok. The end of the report said from Royce, "The grandmother is the boy's legal guardian, and it appears the weapon belonged to her."

My first reaction was shock. I was shocked to read this, and I assumed the boy had died. I could not imagine my son finding a gun and shooting himself.

This was such a scary story. This could literally happen to anyone. I believe anyone who has a gun(s) in their home, and have children living with them, should make sure they have locks on them and are put away. The child probably shouldn't even know you have a gun in the home, or they will get curious. It was so sad that this happened, and I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I could not imagine this poor grandmother finding her grandson with a bullet through his head. She is so luck that he is still alive, and I bet she is thanking God he is. I'm still kind of curious why Grandma had a gun? The picture of the house looks like a nice house, and those kinds of houses are usually in nice neighborhoods; at least mine is. I feel so bad for this family that something like this has happened, but hopefully Grandma has learned a lesson from this unfortunate accident, and puts a lock on her gun, or even gets rid of it. It's still kind of unusual that the gun was loaded and ready to shoot, because I'm pretty sure not every three year old child knows how to use a gun. My 7 year old has two play guns, the cap-guns, and he plays with those and he knows they are not real. My 7 month old son was playing with one of those guns the other day and he was putting the end of it in his mouth, because he was chewing on it, and it made me nervous. I actually don't like guns, so when I saw him do that, even though I knew it wouldn't hurt him, I took it from him.

I would not want anything like this to happen to my children, so I hope that other people out there who have guns in their home with their kids, have thought about this. Hopefully those people help protect their children. Like I said in the last post, people should learn from others mistakes if possible.
