Parents Charged With Murder In Death Of Infant Son

This report happened in Madison County, IL. Donald Miller, 22 years old, and Heather Smith, 20 years old, suffocated their 3 month old baby boy, Ashton Miller. This couple lived on the 600 block of Chouteau in Granite City. They were charged with felony charges of First Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery to a child. Madison County Sheriff's Deputies responded to their house after a 911 call was made reporting a deceased infant. The autopsy of the infant revealed the infant died from suffocation, and also discovered multiple bruises on the baby's body. The report said, "His parents are accused of putting the baby face down to sleep on the couch knowing it could hurt or kill him. Both were reportedly warned not to put the baby face down on the couch. Both Miller and Smith have a 1 million dollar bond set for each of them.



My first reaction was sadness, then anger. How could parents of a 3 month old baby kill their own child and be ok with it?



These people knew what they were doing. The report said they were told not to put the baby face down on the couch because they knew the consequences, but they did it anyways. If they didn't want the baby or couldn't handle him, they should have given him to a family who would have given him the love and attention he needed. I don't know how anyone in their right mind could do this. I could never hurt my baby, there are times, vary rarely, where my son is crying and I get aggravated because I don't know what he wants, but I would NEVER hurt him. I could never hurt him. There really must have been something very disturbing going on in their heads. I look at the pictures of the people who did this and I am ashamed that so many people out there are like these two people. Babies die every day because of irresponsible parents, or people who lose their minds, or whatever excuse they use. I get sad looking up articles to write about for my class because there are so many articles involving children. I remember a couple weeks ago I saw like 5-6 articles about children, and there were only a few that didn't involve kids. We as Americans need to figure out a new way to protect our children. They are our future, and if we can't protect them, we have no future. What did this 3 month old baby boy do that was bad that he deserved to die? This baby couldn't defend himself, and because his parents couldn't handle being parents, he didn't stand a chance. If these people didn't want children because they were young and weren't mature enough to handle a baby, don't have one. Now because of their poor choices, this baby has no life, no chance at life, and no future.



I hate seeing articles like this. I feel like every time I get on to do my blogs I read about a child getting hurt or a baby that gets killed. It's depressing and upsets me every time I find a new one. I know that next week's articles will be the same, more children dead. When will this stuff end?
