I have been having a hard time losing weight. I am 5'5", and I was 107 lbs when I found out I was pregnant in 2008, and now being 2010 I weight 125 lbs. I know what everyone will say, that I am too skinny, or that I am a perfect weight, or my favorite is, you look more like a woman with curves and less like a little girl. Well truth be told, I’m not as happy with my body as I used to be. Although 125 pounds is not fat, but that doesn’t make me any happier about my body; I cannot fit into my old clothes, and I hate that swim suite season is happening fast and I don’t feel comfortable wearing my swim suite anymore. I have to buy new clothes to fit my new curves, and honestly I used to love shopping, but now I hate it. I have a Wii Fit and for the last 3 days I have been working out for about an hour each day, but have seen no changes. I know it’s only been 4 days today, but I used to be so small, and never had a problem getting into shape when summer came around. I am having the hardest time motivating myself to work out more. I walk around our neighborhood as often as I can, and the kids love to go as well so that helps a lot.
I found this article about 4 stages to avoid when trying to get back into shape. The first state is called “the honeymoon.” This is the stage where you have a goal you want to achieve and you work hard to achieve it; but expecting too much too soon can end your workout all together. Start with a small workout and slowly gain more.
The second stage is called “disenchantment.” As this article says, “your excitement fades when you don’t see results right away. You stop looking forward to gym time and start skipping workouts.” You should make your goal about how much time you work out, and not by how much weight you lose. This will help you stay in workout mode.
The third stage is called “stalling.” This is where people get bored with their workouts and lose their commitment and motivation to get back into shape. This is the time to start doing a different workout. Try using a workout machine you usually don’t use or even try something different each day. Doing the same workout everyday can make you tired of doing it, but switching it up can help by making it more fun and keeping your motivation up.
The fourth stage is called “frustration and surrender.” This is about the time you are completely ready to give it all up. You are not seeing results and you don’t see the point. Make a date with a trainer or a friend of yours that would expect you to be there. The article says, “Peer pressure can be a great motivator. You’re more likely to stay on track when someone is holding you accountable,” says Ratcliff from the article.
Although these things may not work for everyone; they are great tips, and hopefully someone out there benefits from this article like I have. Guess we will see how well it works. I know I am not “fat” but, I would love to lose some weight off my butt, and inner thighs, along with toning my abdomen muscles. It doesn’t hurt to get into shape and feel better about yourself, and that’s all I want to do is be happier with how I look and not be so judgmental about myself.

I understand your feelings. Keep trying and you will succeed. I am in the same boat. Not happy with my body. I do not like swimsuits. They scare me. Just try to remember to keep going and don't give up and you will get there.
ReplyDeleteNever give up on a goal that you set for yourself. Workingout is always difficult, but the end result will be worth it.
ReplyDeleteI too have battled quite a bit with my weight since graduating high school and having to deal with the real world. I feel that I eat particularly unhealthy but it is hard to find the time and motivation to work out. Although at 5'5 and 125 pounds you are in a healthy weight range and 105 would actually be underweight for you. As for not noticing any change, well you have to give it more than 3 days of exercising I mean you can't run a marathon without a little bit of practice time.Just stick with it for a little longer and you'll start to see results, because you are pretty slim anyways it make take up to two weeks before you notice a whole lot because a person can gain or lose up to 3 lbs in one day just in water weight. Try to be happy with yourself and keep on working out and before long you'll be back to feeling great.
ReplyDeleteWorking out is pretty tough sometimes. I would say I have stepped into the stalling stage. I work out occasionally, but I tend to skip one of my three workout days a week. This week I have been especially lazy, and have not worked out once. I think that I mostly do it because I procrastinate with homework, thus I skip my workout to finish my assignments on time.
